The Eclipse Supper

Public lore preserves the setting's disagreements and uncertain histories.

Occult Salon Network — Winter Salons, Shuttered Theaters, and Manor Crypts#

"I attended once, on someone else's invitation. The candles were extraordinary. I signed nothing, I promise you that, and I burned the mask before I reached the road." — court poet, unnamed patron, circa 108 AR

The Eclipse Supper is not an organization in the formal sense — it has no charter, no membership rolls, and no publicly acknowledged existence — but it has met, with remarkable consistency, in the shuttered theaters and winter salons of the Reach's surviving manor culture for at least sixty years. Invitations arrive through intermediaries, without attribution. Guests wear masks assigned by the host. The evening's business combines prophecy-reading, spirit consultation, masked formal dueling, and political matchmaking with a fluency that treats all four as aspects of a single practice: the management of futures.

Supper hosts — called Conveners — are typically individuals with access to both living elites and the dead or void-touched entities that the collapse left loose in the landscape. A competent Convener brokers compacts between a lord seeking intelligence about a dead rival's hidden assets, an ancestor-spirit willing to trade that information for a specific posthumous favor, and a void-adjacent entity whose participation in the transaction requires careful management. The resulting agreements are binding under occult law that the Eclipse Supper enforces through means it does not disclose in advance to anyone who breaks them.

The Supper has no political agenda beyond the perpetuation of the conditions that make it useful: a fractured political landscape populated by desperate elites willing to consult unconventional sources. This means it has a structural interest in preventing any faction from achieving decisive dominance, and several known Supper Conveners are believed to have intervened — through prophecy manipulation, engineered supernatural incidents, and precisely targeted political matchmaking — to derail consolidation efforts that seemed likely to succeed. Adventurers invited to a Supper event should be aware that the mask they are given communicates their role in the evening's agenda, and they were not given an invitation by accident.
