Dahakar

Public lore preserves the setting's disagreements and uncertain histories.

Portfolio and Common Titles#

Dahakar governs destructive draconic appetite, fire without mercy, sovereignty by terror, ruined bloodlines, predatory inheritance, and the belief that power proves itself by devouring restraint. Titles include the Endless Flame, Father of Wyrm-Ruin, the Red Devourer, and Crown of Burning Teeth. Symbols include burning scales, dragon skulls, forked flame, cracked eggs, and crowns melted into claws.

Historical and Theological Profile#

Dahakar is the dark answer to Apsuron. Where Apsuron sanctifies guardianship, Dahakar sanctifies appetite. His cults are rarely stable because they reward the strong until the strongest eats the structure that made worship possible. Historically, Dahakarite outbreaks occur around tyrant dragons, dragon-blooded warlords, ruined mountain courts, fire cults, and princes who envy draconic fear more than draconic wisdom. He is also invoked in horror tales wherever a lineage becomes dangerous because its founder chose power without inheritance ethics.

Role in the Serathi War#

Dahakar's Serathi cults were fringe but memorable. Fire-raiders painted dragon jaws on shields, and the burning of the lower harbor was later mythologized as the Red Wyrm opening one eye beneath the city. Apsuronian priests denounce this as propaganda, but ruin cults preserve the image because it captures the terror of sovereignty by flame: a ruler who cannot hold a city may still decide that no one else shall have it.

Institutions, Clergy, and Rites#

Dahakarite clergy are fire prophets, tyrant advisers, dragon cultists, ravager knights, and bloodline corrupters. Their rites include the Burning of the Cradle, the Scale Feast, the Trial by Devouring Flame, and the Crown of Ash, through which a ruler proves willingness to destroy what they cannot command. Some cults directly serve dragons; others imitate draconic terror without any dragon's permission.

Regional Expressions#

Dahakar is feared in the Bastion Teeth, Nord-Vast ridges, Sunwall ruins, and old dragon-haunted valleys of the Reach. Umbra Magni categorizes Dahakarite activity as a containment threat. The Azure Isles preserve elaborate anti-Dahakar ward tales. Iron-Bound fort culture treats dragon terror as an engineering and command problem: walls must hold, chains must hold, officers must not become beasts. Pashara occasionally faces Dahakarite influence in remote satrapal lineages. Khavari fire-khans and black-scale omens are sometimes interpreted through Dahakar by outsiders, though Khavari theologians usually fold destructive sovereignty into Steppe omen rather than dragon doctrine.

Conflicts and Heresies#

Dahakar conflicts with Apsuron, Torren, Ivara, and any cult that asks strength to protect. He is sometimes confused with Rovagar, but Dahakar wants domination through fear, not final unmaking. His relation to the First Silence is mostly fraudulent: cults claim ancient draconic fire can burn through the wall, but there is no reliable proof. Such traditions surface in accounts of dragon tyrants, corrupted noble houses, mountain cults, fire oaths, anti-dragon fortresses, and rulers who become monstrous not through mutation but through the appetite to be feared.
